OUT LGBT Well-being seeking new volunteer Board Members

OUT is more than 27 years old and serves the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender (LGBT+) community in Pretoria (Tshwane), Johannesburg, Nelson Mandela Bay and Buffalo City.

OUT is one of the oldest LGBT+ community groups in South Africa. The organisation’s focus is on health issues of LGBT people and Men who have Sex with Men (MSM), human rights (hate crimes) and community building.

OUT is recruiting up to four new, volunteer Board members. The OUT Board’s primary role is to provide strategic direction to the organisation. The Board meets between 4-6 times per year. The duration of the meetings is between 3 and 5 hours.

The Board is responsible for the evaluation of the Director’s performance, adopting the annual plan and cash flow projection, approval of the annual report and audited statements and on-going operational guidance.

An OUT Board Member should have a great passion for LGBT+ issues, including health, human rights, service delivery and equality.

OUT is particularly looking to fill the position of a Board Treasurer and additional Board members with experience/skills in one of the following areas:

  • Financial management – experience in working with funders such as PEPFAR
  • Fundraising / resource mobilisation
  • Psychosocial well-being or support/ social worker / psychologist
  • Legal expertise with a focus on human rights
  • Medical science
