OUT and Sibanye LGBT Engage With Uitenhage Church Women

OUT LGBT Well-being, alongside Sibanye LGBT, recently collaborated with women at the Presbyterian Church of Africa (Tinarha Circuit) in Uitenhage to discuss hate crimes and supporting queer children.

This initiative came about following a request from the church after the tragic 2021 murder of Andile “Lulu” Ntuthela, a member of the queer community in Uitenhage.

Abongile Yaze from OUT led the session, emphasising the importance of engaging with and educating the wider community, particularly within religious circles.

Sibonelo Ncanana, OUT’s Civil Society Engagement Officer, praised the collaborative efforts of the church and Sibanye LGBT in fostering a safer environment for queer individuals.

The engagement forms part of OUT’s ongoing commitment to reduce stigma around LGBTIQ+ identities and help build more inclusive and welcoming communities for all.
