Job Opening: Professional (NIMART) Nurse


OUT LGBT Well-being is a South African-based Not for Profit Organisation aimed at enabling socially just, inclusive, and equitable societies that are free of discrimination and stigma for all lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender people. OUT works to secure the empowerment, human rights, access to equitable services and well-being of LGBT communities in South Africa, the region and internationally.

OUT is currently recruiting a NIMART Nurse who will be responsible for providing holistic and comprehensive HIV AIDS clinical care to men who have sex with men (MSM) clients and performing Clinical Procedures and administering processes according to clinical guidelines.


  • Conduct assessment and physical assessments of all client and record findings within the clinical notes.
  • Conduct Phlebotomy duties and interpretation of all client’s results.
  • Counselling and support for high-risk clients for PrEP, PEP, ART initiations, and provision of STI treatment.
  • Ensure that clients adhere to their follow-up appointments.
  • Ensure first in, first out (FIFO) principle regarding medication is adhered, to prevent stock outage and medication expiring.
  • Ensure that clients files are accurately completed and submitted to Monitoring and Evaluation office.
  • Produce weekly feedback reports on relevant statistics, challenges, and outcomes.
  • Provision of behaviour change information on issues related to HIV, TB, STI, PrEP, PEP, ART, and other related information for high risk MSM.
  • Ensure that you are updated with latest Department of Health (DOH) policies and clinic guidelines.
  • Timeously keep record of all medication, commodities and medical supplies that are required to provide primary health care (PHC) services for MSM.


  • A degree or 4-year diploma qualification as a Professional Nurse.
  • Registration as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council.
  • NIMART trained and certified as competent to work independently.
  • Dispensing license.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in working with key population.
  • At least 2 years’ NIMART experience.
  • Familiar with latest HIV Management, PrEP, ART, STI and TB guidelines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, including time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Driver’s License is required and ability to drive will be an added advantage.
  • Strong organisational knowledge and understanding of HTS, PEP, PrEP, ART and Community Index Testing.
  • Ability to mentor and support teams to achieve their daily targets.
  • Knowledge of risk segmentation for MSM.
  • Ability to work independently, and support other teams’ members to achieve the overall objectives of the project.
  • Team player, detail focused and reliable, able to work independently.
  • Good technical understanding of clinical SOPs and policy.
  • Willing to work flexi hours, weekends, and public holidays as per organisational requirements.
