POSITION : HUMAN RIGHTS MANAGER
OFFICE : PRETORIA

OUT works to secure the empowerment, human rights, access to equitable services and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender plus communities in South Africa, the region and internationally.

OUT LGBT Well-being is currently recruiting qualified and experienced Human Rights Manager to support our Hate Crime project in Pretoria.

This position will have a direct report to the CEO.

JOB PURPOSE

To manage and develop the hate crimes programme of the organisation.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Management of the Human Rights Programme, including monitoring progress against agreed outputs and submission of all required reports (narrative and financial progress reports) to funders and other stakeholders.
  • Manage and monitor the unstructured supplementary Service Data (USSD) reporting tool and assist clients who have reported online with further assistance.
  • Monitoring of progress regarding Parliamentary Bills and drafting submissions for bills.
  • Creating awareness around bills and instituted legislation.
  • Holding relevant governmental bodies accountable to implement the South African Constitution in relation to Human Rights for LGBTIQ+ people.
  • Attend relevant portfolio standing committees, stakeholder meetings and panel discussions.
  • Build stakeholder partnerships and referral systems.
  • Monitoring of government bodies, attend meetings to monitor progress and hold them accountable.
  • Track and monitor progress on existing cases with SAPS and the RRT in their respective provinces.
  • Establish and facilitate safe/social spaces. These spaces will be used to host/offer talks and dialogues to empower victims of hate crimes and the LGBTI community.
  • Manage allocated budget and keep record of all expenses.
  • Create awareness regarding hate crimes to the media and public and provide sensitization training to both community stakeholders and government institutions.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree with focus on Human Rights.
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience in advocacy/human rights work.
  • Experience in Hate Crimes work would be a benefit.
  • At least 1 years’ experience in managing sub-partners (sub-grantees).
  • Good computer skills – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and databases.
  • Works well in a team and is willing and able to develop and support team members.
  • Reliable.
  • Understands and values confidentiality.
  • Problem solving orientation.

POSITION : SENIOR FINANCE OFFICER
OFFICE : PRETORIA & JOHANNESBURG

OUT LGBT Well-being is currently recruiting qualified and experienced Senior Finance Officer to support our USAID project in Pretoria, Colbyn.

This position will have a direct report to the Finance Manager and will be for a fixed term.

JOB PURPOSE

The Senior Finance Officer is responsible for the general bookkeeping, financial reporting for all programmes run by the organisation as per funder requirements and deadlines.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Involved in creating new budgets for projects as well as redirections.
  • Calculate and manage overhead recoveries per project, create journals.
  • Calculate, manage, and update salary recoveries per project.
  • Create reports for all projects, discuss with project managers to check allocations (update individual project ‘Actuals vs Budget’ spreadsheets).
  • Complete funder specific financial report templates, recovery detail and overhead allocation schedule before the 8th of each month.
  • Create quarterly/mid-year/annual financial funder reports and check them with project managers.
  • Check and authorise payment requisitions before payments are made.
  • Review payroll for completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Responsible for assets and preferred supplier processes.
  • Create monthly salary & overhead journals for all relevant projects, salary control, PAYE, credit cards.
  • Capture budgets in QuickBooks.
  • Assist auditors in project audits as well as annual overall audit and write audit journals.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES

  • BCom Financial Degree and/or related experience.
  • At least 5 years work related experience, with strong Excel skills
  • USAID/ other Federal funded NPOs experience essential.
