“Our new location is still centrally located but is more modern and spacious, allowing us to provide our clients with an even more pleasant and welcoming experience,” says Operational Director Johan Meyer. “Our phone numbers and free and friendly services stay the same,” he adds.
Thanks to its generous funders, OUT’s TEN81 clinic remains a safe space for LGBTQ individuals and men who have sex with men (MSM) who often face discrimination and stigma in the health care sector. In the 2018/2019 financial year, the clinic completed an impressive 6,970 appointments.
TEN81’s affirming and non-judgemental services, which are at no cost to clients, include:
• HIV testing, counselling, treatment (ARVs) and management
• Provision of PrEP, the daily HIV prevention pill
• Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) screening and basic treatment
• Tuberculosis (TB) screening and referral
• HIV management (CD4 and viral load)
• General medical, sexual health and safer sex consultations
• Individual and couples counselling
The TEN81 clinic is also the base for the organisation’s mobile outreach teams who provide these services across the Tshwane region. In 2018/2019, the mobile teams reached 5,312 unique clients.
In addition, OUT runs the Love Not Hate programme and LGBTQ Legal Clinic that offer free legal advice and advocate to end hate crimes and discrimination against sexual and gender minorities in South Africa.
The public can support OUT, which has been in existence for more than 25 years, through the Woolworths MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet card initiative. Participants in the programme can add OUT LGBT Well-being as one of their beneficiaries and every time they shop at Woolworths, a portion of their spend will be donated to OUT at no cost to them.
