Saying goodbye to Delene

As a Nurse Therapist and Nurse Educator by profession, with a BCur (IetA) from the University of Pretoria, she has more than 20 years’ experience.

In September 2005, she started volunteering on OUT’s counselling line and impressively landed a short term contract in May 2006 as the Sexual and Mental Health Manager, which became permanent in August of the same year.

Delene’s skills and creativity led to many milestones for the organisation including opening the VCT (Voluntary Counselling and Testing) Clinic in August 2006.

She also initiated the face-to-face counselling programme and in April 2007 she expanded the mental health programme to various support groups, a CPD accredited study group for mental health care providers, and sensitisation of health care providers in June 2010.

Delene continued to work with the organisation as a training and development consultant, training and mentoring thousands of people across Africa in understanding human sexuality, developing training materials, and representing the organisation at various academic and other platforms internationally.

OUT thanks her for her outstanding contributions and wishes her well in her new endeavours. Delene’s many talents, wisdom and vibrant energy will be sorely missed.
