OUT provides direct health services to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, MSM, sex workers, and injecting drug users, including HIV testing, counselling, treatment and general lifestyle advice and support.

OUT has been in existence for more than 21 years and is dedicated to the building of healthy and empowered LGBT communities in South Africa and internationally, while reducing hetrosexism and homophobia in society.

National study on viral hepatitis in key populations in South Africa set to begin recruitment

 A consortium of partners is undertaking a viral hepatitis service provision and research project for key populations (people who inject drugs, sex workers and men who have sex with men) in South Africa. 

The study will assess information gaps on populations disproportionately affected by viral hepatitis and provide an evidence base to guide future interventions.

Shocking new stats show that South Africans are becoming MORE homophobic

As it’s revealed that 14% of Gauteng residents support violence against gay and lesbian people, Love Not Hate calls for the fight against homophobia to become a national priority. 

Among the results of the 2015 Gauteng City-Region Observatory Quality of Life Survey, released on Tuesday, 14% of Gautengers agreed that it’s acceptable to be violent to gay and lesbian people.

Love Not Hate concerned about spike in LGBTI hate crimes

The Love Not Hate campaign, a nation-wide multi-partner initiative addressing violence against LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual and intersex) people, is alarmed at the recent spike in attacks against members of the LGBTI community.
On 18 December 2015, the mutilated and burnt body of a 21-year-old lesbian woman, Motshidisi Pasca Melamu, was discovered in Gauteng’s Evaton North. It is believed that she was also raped.

Young lesbian woman murdered on her birthday

The Love Not Hate campaign, a nation-wide multi-partner initiative addressing violence against LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex) people, is dismayed to report yet another senseless murder of a young lesbian woman.
Lucia Naido, from Katlehong on Johannesburg’s East Rand, was stabbed to death on the night of her birthday on March 19.

OUT welcomes approval of PrEP in South Africa

OUT LGBT Well-being applauds the recent decision by the Medicines Control Council to approve the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in South Africa.

PrEP is a new prevention option for HIV negative people who have high risk sex or simply wish to further protect themselves from HIV infection. It is also recommended for HIV negative people who are in a relationship with an HIV positive partner.
