OUT provides direct health services to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, MSM, sex workers, and injecting drug users, including HIV testing, counselling, treatment and general lifestyle advice and support.

OUT has been in existence for more than 21 years and is dedicated to the building of healthy and empowered LGBT communities in South Africa and internationally, while reducing hetrosexism and homophobia in society.

World Psychiatric Association condemns LGBT "cures"

The World Psychiatric Association (WPA) has unequivocally stated that efforts to “cure” LGBT people don’t work and are dangerous and unethical.
The WPA is an international association of national psychiatric societies. Its member societies span 118 countries and represent more than 200,000 psychiatrists.

New LGBTI anthology launched in honour of Gerald Kraak

The Jacana Literary Foundation and Jacana Media have announced the establishment of the annual Gerald Kraak Award and Anthology. These have been made possible by a partnership with The Other Foundation and funding from Atlantic Philanthropies.
The anthology will feature English language writing and photography from and about Africa. Exceptional works which explore, interrogate and celebrate the topics of gender, sexuality and human rights will be short-listed, and given a voice.

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa says the newly launched National Sex Worker HIV Plan is about citizens’ rights and affirming the equal worth of every citizen.
“It is about affirming the rights of all South Africans to life, dignity and health, regardless of their occupation, sexual orientation and circumstances,” said the Deputy President on Friday at the launch held in Johannesburg.

Lerato Phalakatshela, the Hate Crime Manager at OUT LGBT Well-being, took part in the recent historic three day LGBTI African conference in Kempton Park, Johannesburg.
Titled the "Africa Regional Seminar on Finding Practical Solutions for Addressing Violence and Discrimination Against Persons Based on Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression”, the event was hosted by the South African government and the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC).

Study: More than 60% of newly diagnosed HIV+ men used dating apps

An American study has found a strong correlation between new HIV diagnoses among men who have sex with men (MSM) and their use of online hook-up sites and apps.
Researchers from Brown University, The Miriam Hospital, and the Rhode Island Department of Health found that more than 60 percent of MSM diagnosed with HIV in the US state of Rhode Island in 2013 reported meeting sexual partners online in the preceding year.
