OUT provides direct health services to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, MSM, sex workers, and injecting drug users, including HIV testing, counselling, treatment and general lifestyle advice and support.

OUT has been in existence for more than 21 years and is dedicated to the building of healthy and empowered LGBT communities in South Africa and internationally, while reducing hetrosexism and homophobia in society.

As the world commemorates the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOTB) this month, OUT is highlighting the scourge of biphobia, which is often overlooked.

IDAHOTB has been observed annually since 2005 every 17 May and is an opportunity to bring awareness to the prejudice faced by the world’s LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer / questioning) community. The date is significant; it marks the decision to remove homosexuality from the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 1990.

Romantic relationships help gay youth cope with homophobia

A new study has confirmed that young lesbian and gay American youth who are in relationships suffer less psychological distress than those who are not.

The research by Northwestern Medicine and the University of Cincinnati also concluded that being in a relationship buffered these young people against the negative effects of bullying and victimisation.
